ShareSpace Education has as its mission to inspire students in the pursuit of science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. In order to understand the impact of the Giant Mars Map program in attaining this mission we need to collect and analyze data from map users. This data helps us to focus on improvements and prove effectiveness as we seek funding as well as create and improve materials. We have identified four areas for data collection:
- STEAM pre and post test,
- Survey of teachers using the education activities prepared and distributed by ShareSpace,
- Survey of teachers using materials they have developed, and
- Survey of leaders using the Giant Moon Map as a part of a special event.
The STEAM Pre/Post Test is intended to be used on-line by each of your students before and after using the Giant Moon Map. It does not ask for or collect personally identifiable data. The idea is to attempt to quantify how students think about STEAM topics, working as a team, and space exploration. Please explain to students how to determine a number for the questions that require one. Please consider practicing with younger students by making statements to which they can respond by raising 1 to 5 fingers depending upon their level of agreement with the statement. Also, please coordinate the students' response to the school name question to assist us in disaggregating data.
The Giant Moon Map Curriculum Activities Report is intended to collect data related to the education activities supplied with the map by ShareSpace Education. We would like to collect your e-mail address to allow us to ask follow-up questions, if necessary, but also get your opinion on the activities. We want to know how many students used the map, how you measured the effectiveness of using the map, and your conclusions. Please use this form as the opportunity to help us improve the current curriculum materials and suggest additional materials.
The Giant Moon Map Teacher-created Activities Report is intended to collect data related to the kinds of activities that have been created locally using the Giant Moon Map as a resource. We want to know how many students used the map, how you measured the effectiveness of using the map, and your conclusions. Please use this form as the opportunity to help us understand more ways the maps may be used in the classroom.
The Giant Moon Map Event Report is used to collect data on how the map is being used to support events beyond the classroom. The form asks for a description of the event, an estimate of the number of participants, and some open-ended questions related to your opinion of the impact.
